My name is Bryan Hammond. Not so long ago I retired from supervising the real-time 24/7 operations of the Electric Power Grid of the western half of North America. Yep. And my formal education is Biology and Environmental Ecology. More? I taught big boat ocean sailing and tennis. I raced motocross motorcycles and was a professional drummer. I was in TV movies, pilots and a soap opera during my almost 10 years acting in Hollywood. SAG-AFTRA member since 1993. I’ve snow skied black diamond trails and surfed the coast of Southern California. I sold real estate, was Director of Marketing & Sales for an engineering and manufacturing firm, and was a scuba Divemaster. And that’s not all…
My life story so far has been truly amazing, and it’s been fun! I luckily grew up with solid, loving and encouraging parents. I had a father that taught me the value of trying to do my best by using my knowledge, training and most importantly my experience. “Learn from your mistakes”, he would say. “Learning from other people’s mistakes is even better”, he would add with a little smile.
They gently encouraged me to: “Use your brain, Bryan.” (That was a common phrase.) And I had a mother whose very motto could have been: “A stranger is just a person that you don’t know their name yet.” I had quite the environment growing up surrounded by intelligence and caring; of course, trial-and-error, coupled with: “What did you learn from that?”; and the encouragement to try just about anything as long as it didn’t go counter with my own personal morals and ethics. My folks were fond of reminding me to: “Always be kind to strangers because everyone is going through some sort of personal tragedy that you know nothing about.”
You will see my use of quotes throughout my writings. They gel my thoughts in a way that underscores my paradigm that we can ALL learn from each other. And that everyone, regardless of the generation they happened to be born into, have lessons for the other generations, both older and younger. We ALL have something to pass on to each other. And that's why I founded the Thrivevolutionary Newsletter.
Let me close here with one of my very favorite quotations. And just so you know, yes, I'm aware that it's probably not a real quote from Lao Tzu and his Tao Te Ching. But I can love the sentiment just the same.
“When the student is ready the teacher will appear...”
